ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) November 17, 2006
USA Prepare, a division of MC Strategies will host a webinar developed by BORDERS Alert and Ready, a new program designed to help health care professionals improve their ability to prepare for and respond to disasters involving mass trauma and casualties. It will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 1:00 p. m. EST. The webinar will alert healthcare professionals to the myriad possibilities for mass casualty disasters and present appropriate ways to respond to and recover from these catastrophes.
During mass casualty incidents, healthcare workers risk occupational exposures to chemical, biological or radiological materials when a hospital receives contaminated patients. Hospitals must prepare and can benefit from the BORDERS Alert and Ready training to assist them in planning for emergency incidents involving hazardous substances.
The webinar, presented by Dr. Linda M. Olson, will give an overview of the BORDERS Alert and Ready curriculum which provides practical information to help healthcare professionals understand emergency management planning. Dr. Olson will address several areas including the protection of hospital-based emergency department personnel during mass casualty incidents; the threat of catastrophic events; the role of the public health system and government in protecting society and individuals; victim decontamination; personal protective equipment; mass casualty triage and continuing education.
Linda M. Olson, Ed. D., is an Associate Professor at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. Dr. Olson brings extensive teaching experience and speaks with authority in matters pertaining to disaster preparedness. She is also the Special Projects Director for the Office of Medical Education at UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, which developed the BORDERS Alert and Ready program.
