Study Names Medical Assistant as the Allied Health Occupation with the Highest Demand in the San Francisco Bay Area

Employer Survey by California Community Colleges names Medical Assistant the Allied Heath profession with the highest demand in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bay Area Medical Academy’s dual certification program poised to prepare individuals for immediate job opportunities.

San Francisco, CA (Vocus) December 1, 2010

According to the Centers of Excellence Allied Health Employer Survey published June 2010, “San Francisco Bay Area healthcare employers anticipate more than 4,000 new and replacement jobs in ten key allied health occupations over the next twelve months.”

The survey names Medical Assistant as the allied health career with the greatest growth. Out of the 10 occupations surveyed, Medical Assistant is expected to add the most new positions (1,720) over the next 12 months. A trend of replacing RNs with lower-paid positions has further buoyed the demand for Medical Assistants.

“The increase in demand for our Medical Assisting graduates is evident. We have more externship sites for this program than available students and students get job offers at their externship sites. Employers are looking for people who are cross-trained; the trend is to replace the higher-paid health workers with Medical Assistants who receive comprehensive training and multiple certifications at our school,” states Simonida Cvejic, Executive Director at Bay Area Medical Academy.

The Medical Assisting program at Bay Area Medical Academy prepares students to become certified in Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and EKG Technology. According to the Centers of Excellence survey, the amount of employers requiring stacked or multiple certifications as minimum qualifications are increasing. With three certifications, Bay Area Medical Academy graduates become prime candidates for employment.

The study also specifically looked at the gap between the supply of newly trained professionals and the projected new and replacement jobs in the next 12 months. The supply represents the total number of graduates from community college programs at 28 colleges in the San Francisco Bay Area. Again, Medical Assistant came on top as the profession with the highest identified gap, followed by Pharmacy Technician.

The current workforce cannot adequately meet the ever growing demand for healthcare professionals created by population growth, healthcare reform and an aging population. In addition, the Bay Area Healthcare employers surveyed expect 8.8% of their workforce to retire in the next twelve months. Therefore occupational growth in the healthcare field is projected to increase despite the recession.

Among the other fastest growing Allied Health occupations identified in the study are Pharmacy Technicians, Medical Records and Health Information Technicians as well as Radiological Technologists, none of these requiring bachelor degrees.

The recent survey was conducted by The Center of Excellence, Economic and Workforce Development Program, an initiative by the Chancellor’s Office of California Community Colleges. Data was collected from over 400 healthcare employers in the 11-county San Francisco Bay Area.

Made from whole fruit utilizing a proprietary process that creates a fruit paste, including the skin and pulp, CherryFlex for Dogs Softgels have a great-tasting natural beef flavor without preservatives, by-products or fillers. Designed to help dogs maintain healthy joint function*, CherryFlex for Dogs special formulation is available in 60-count bottles.

Recommended dosage is one softgel daily for canines 24 pounds of weight and under and two softgels daily for larger dogs 25 pounds and over. Taken with or without food as a treat, the 800 mg fill wt softgels are bio-available, easy for dogs to swallow or chew, and do not require refrigeration.

FruitFast owner Steve deTar said the company has plans to expand the companion animal line to include other pet-based products. "Promoting healthy lifestyles for people and their pets through the health benefits found in dark-skinned fruits will continue to be our emphasis," he said.
